Presentation

The BiGEst platform is a network of platforms and teams providing bioinformatics services in Strasbourg. It is supported by 8 facilities from CNRS, INSERM, and the University of Strasbourg: GMGM, IBMC, IBMP, ICube, IGBMC, INCI, IPHC, and LNCA. Its missions are to deploy a shared computing and storage infrastructure dedicated to bioinformatics, to provide scientific and technical expertises and to organize training sessions to the scientific community.

BiGEst is actively engaged in the national research infrastructure: the French Institute of Bioinformatics (IFB), the french node of ELIXIR, the European distributed research infrastructure for life science data.

Our missions

The BiGEst consortium brings together bioinformatics platforms to support the scientific community through four core missions:

Deployment of local computing and storage infrastructure
The facility deploys and maintains a shared computing and storage infrastructure dedicated to bioinformatics, ensuring researchers have access to the resources required for the processing, analysis, and management of large-scale biological data.

Provision of a unified service catalog
The facility consolidates the service offerings of its member platforms within a single, unified catalog, thereby facilitating access to bioinformatics expertise and resources for the research community.

Delivery of training programs for biologists and bioinformaticians
The facility designs and delivers training programs intended for both biologists and bioinformaticians, with the aim of strengthening competencies in data analysis, computational methods, and bioinformatics best practices.

Coordination of the local network of bioinformaticians
The Federation coordinates and animates a local network of bioinformaticians, fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the sharing of best practices among researchers and platforms.

Our organization

The BIGEst Hub is supported by eight partner laboratories and a multi-level governance structure to fulfill its missions.
